It came to mind alot of people in my corp just buy the ore they need because they dont want to risk a low sec solo mining spre. Well what if there was a New Gen Mining Ship like a miniature Mobile Mining Station in which a pilot assumes control.

Two decent ships inside a 'fleet'. But not everyone has two accounts and can run two clients. Orca is a great hauler but lacks any really mining ability on its own and a hulk is easily taken out.

Industrial ships have far too flimsy of structure and armor. In order to maintain integrity while carrying 20x capacity of the ship's weight itself, the outer hull and armor must be massive. Aside the fact that they do not have launcher hardpoints or turret hardpoints for combat. Beefy defenses for industrial ships just makes sense.

MMO means there is a lot of players. A variety of things but most Mining ops do not benefit the player as it does the fleet.

So you think that CCP should encourage solo play in an MMO?
Artimes Haack
Lets see yes CCP does encourage solo play by allowing multiple accounts(if you got the cash to pay why not). And many players in the game solo mine every day. I seen up to six solo miners in a single belt sometimes. And undocking from stations I always run into Barges and Exhumers throughout the day.

So run a Barge or Exhumer in lowsec.

Barge/Exhumer screams easy target when i was in a corp with hq in low sec, I lost a lot of mining ships in the belts and a good number of pod kills.

And this new ship you're suggesting won't be an easy target?

I suggested a basic design even if ccp were to add a new mining ship I doubt they would use the same specs. The ship Is an easy target but does overall have much better defenses then a hulk. Fitted right Could give you 90% resistance or better with a decent size shield and good passive recharge.

So you have a hulk with more EHP, which gives you more time to sit there and die to a gang?

The main issue with mining in low sec is that the barge has to sit still for a long time. If they want people mining in low sec they have to make a ship that can mine while moving. Maybe have something that can grab a chunk of roid and run with it.

Or also more time to get help from friends. EHP could mean the difference from being podded or being able to escape. And from experience I have never been killed in a mining ship by a gang before or perhaps I am just lucky and thinking that a single mining ship that would require a good sum of ammunition to take down would not deter a some from going after it.

Just as a note, how about a take on blockade runners?
Miner industrial, cloak and faster. Ability to compress ore in hold, and warp resists, with T2 resists. Small hold, only runs one strip miner.

Max normal range is up to 17km for ore strip miners. With the boost from this ship 25km at 60 m/s you would get a good cut of the roid.

Interesting 1000 m/3 per cycle every 3 minutes a whole set of ships like that would make a great t3 tree for the mining barges.

I am a bit out of my depth when it comes to the market and the status of Ore prices...but, surely a well organised corporation can run a mining operation in low sec?
Find a good system, setup a pos, have your guys mining align to the pos whenever local spikes, if a flashy pirate happens to warp into the belt - warp to the pos and change into your PvP ships, warp back, shoot the pirate.
Rinse and repeat?
Trying the change the game or even add a ship because you do not wish to apply the current game mechanics to your advantage is pretty arrogant.
You'd also get more respect from pirates if you defend your turf and make it 'your' system.
Plenty of systems out there in low sec to do this.
Hell, you could even do this in PF-346 and instead of warping to a POS, warp to the Orvolle (0.7) gate and ninja mine Dark Ochre.
I don't disagree with your ship design, just the reasons for you wishing to have it endorsed.

Well with my current corp our corp ops are about 5-6 ships in all and We are no where close to owning a POS as of yet. I am not sure if I said it but at best our mining ops bring in about 10-20 mill a head and usually we can only go on weekends due to work and times. Hell I miss out on probably 90% of mining ops cause I often half to work 7 days a week and up to ten hours a day. My honest reason behind a solo ship is that not everyone has time to mmo inside an mmo.

So solo mine in highsec, where you're safer. This is a personal problem not a game problem.

I'm sorry to hear that - but I think you and I both know CCP is not going to design/endorse a new ship on that basis, they need to balance the game.
That said, I am always hearing that mining is going to get a reboot, or industrial players will get some love before the end of the year, so maybe they will do something.
FYI - I used to ninja mine in a velator during my trial period in 0.0 and it took a while before I got shot down...but this was in February 2005, before Hulks and Orcas and the average subscribers logged in at the weekend was 10,000.
But there was m0o...
