The Every Woman Coalition reached the consensus that a stand alone treaty to end, and prevent, violence against women and girls is the best, next step. Level the law: the patchwork of protection afforded women and girls leaves the vast majority without an opportunity to pursue justice through the courts. Dozens of studies point to the legal, geographic, and enforcement gaps that continue to isolate victims and survivors of violence. Decades of research by civil society, governments, and international entities, demonstrates that a whole-of-society, whole-of-government approach lowers rates of violence. An analysis of global violence estimates that violence against women costs the global economy US$4.7 trillion per year, or 5.5 percent of the global Gross Domestic Product. Survivors need a treaty that centers them and provides the global binding norm necessary to adjudicate their cases. The stand-alone treaty our coalition supports will prioritize closing the Normative and Geographic Gaps in International Law. The stand-alone treaty our coalition supports will be a Globally Applicable Instrument. The stand-alone treaty our coalition supports will close the Enforcement Gap with an innovative narrative + metrics-based approach. The stand-alone treaty our coalition supports will catalyze funding, just as the Landmine Treaty did in 1997. The stand-alone treaty our coalition supports will accelerate the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goal Number 5. Violence against women is a human rights violation, a public health emergency, and an economic crisis.

Sexual Risk Behaviors, HIV Prevalence and Access to Reproductive Health Services Among Young Women Migrant Workers in the Industrial Zones in Vietnam

Background: Young migrant workers working in the industrial zones (IZ) in low and middle-income countries are at risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. This study examines the sex-related risks of young women migrant workers in the IZ in Vietnam.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1,061 young migrant women working in the IZ park in Hanoi, Vietnam. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with HIV testing and condom use at last sex.Results: A total of 1,061 young women migrant workers completed the survey in which 652 participants consented to take the initial rapid HIV test. All but one participant tested negative indicating a HIV prevalence of 150 (95% CI: 27–860) per 100,000 population among this population. Global conflict escalation during the pandemic, climate, and economic dilemmas: Healthcare sustainability challenges in conflict zones and elsewhere

Religion, governance, and politics–as well as related topics such as human rights, justice, and so on–have historically caused many of the world’s most significant conflicts, and they continue to do so because these issues are often the most fundamental in the structure of a society. To gain a military advantage, parties to armed conflicts have polluted water, burned crops, cut down forests, poisoned soils, and killed animals over the years. A variety of context factors, particularly socioeconomic conditions, governance, and political factors, interact and play a key role in translating climate change into conflict risks. The present unrest all over the world risks putting more than half of the countries into a crisis of health, economy, and social safety, which is the biggest threat to human civilization. The security and safety of healthcare facilities, workers, and supply lines remain paramount concerns along with access to health services, technology, and innovation.

The book examines the impact of COVID-19 on economic and political processes, contending that the global reaction to the pandemic has been the largest failure in scientific policy in a generation. Unlike earlier crises, it has impacted the world's leading economies while also paralyzing international ties, provoking diverse and far-reaching reactions. The authors posit that no effective global response has been launched in response to this global catastrophe. Rather, governments have implemented a variety of policies based on the costs of virus protection against financial closure and isolation. In doing so, there has been a resurgence in nationalism. This book aims to provide comprehensive understanding of how the pandemic has widened political gaps, and demarcates what the long-term consequences might be in terms of policies and economics in the wake of the pandemic. Of interest to scholars in political geography, development studies, international relations, public administration, and health science, this book presents key observations on existing theories of global politics pivoted around the COVID-19 pandemic, and its ramifications on individuals, groups, and ultimately, the nation state.
