If you are trying to eat a little better in the new year, a smoothie can be the perfect answer. Made with simple ingredients that are easy to keep on hand, smoothies are a great way to start the day and pack in a little extra fruit and vegetables. Additionally, it can taste like a real treat without adding any processed sugar to your day.

How to Make a Mango Smoothie

This is a brief overview of how to make this delicious breakfast smoothie. For the full recipe with all of the measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in the blender. To make things a little easier to blend, I like to let everything sit for 10 minutes before I start blending. The frozen fruit thaws a little in the milk and blends up very fast.
  2. Blend until smooth. Enjoy your smoothie!

The Best Blender

I absolutely love this set that I got from Ninja. As I mentioned the other day, it is perfect for blending up my Green Goddess Dressing. I use it all the time. Additionally, as you can see, it came with a bullet which I drink my smoothies right out of.

Protein Smoothie

If you are looking to boost the protein in this recipe, I suggest adding a little protein powder. As this is written, it has four grams of protein, but with a little protein powder, you can probably boost that up to almost 30 grams.

I love using pea protein powder. I’ve found that it usually has a pretty mild flavor while still bringing a lot of protein to the party.

Add the protein powder when you add all of the other ingredients. That extra time of sitting together will also help it dissolve a little in the milk.

Ripe Bananas for Smoothies

Did you know that the browner a banana is the sweeter it will taste? This is one of the main reasons why we use brown bananas when making banana bread!

If you want a stronger banana taste, you should use a less ripe banana. If you want a more subtle banana taste and a sweeter tasting smoothie, use a riper banana.

Choosing Milk for Mango Smoothies

I like to make my smoothies with skim milk or sometimes some vanilla soy milk. Please note that the nutritional information in this post is based on making it with skim milk. But that being said, this will really work with whatever milk you prefer.

Variations

There are endless possibilities when making this mango smoothie, so let’s just cover a few. For most of them, we are just pulling out one cup of mango and replacing it with a different fruit. Read below on leaving out the banana.

  • Mango Pineapple Smoothie: Replace one of the cups of mango with one cup of frozen pineapple.
  • Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie: Replace one cup of mango with one cup of frozen strawberries.
  • Mango Blueberry Smoothie: Replace one cup of mango with one cup of frozen blueberries.
  • Peach Mango Smoothie: Replace one cup of mango with one cup of frozen peaches.
  • Mango Avocado Smoothie: Take out the banana and add in a ripe avocado.
  • Spinach Mango Smoothie: Keep everything the same, but add one cup packed spinach.

Banana Free Smoothies

If you aren’t a fan of bananas that is totally cool. You can still enjoy this delicious smoothie recipe. In lieu of adding the banana you can add some of the following:

  • Frozen fruit: Use the list above as inspiration, replacing the banana with one cup of frozen fruit!
  • Spinach: Replace the banana with two cups of packed spinach. In this variation, you may find that you need to add a teaspoon or two of honey for sweetness.
  • Avocado: Use one ripe avocado instead of the banana. Again, consider that you may need to add some honey.
  • Yogurt: Leave out the banana and instead use one cup of yogurt. This can be a great way to boost the protein too!
